All primary schools and full schools will open for registration from 8am to 11am and from 2.30pm to 4.30pm from, Mondays to Fridays during the period.

But there are different dates for different phases of registration, the full details of which can be obtained from the primary one registration website, www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/primary-one-registration/.

Under the Compulsory Education Act, Singapore Citizens born after Jan 1, 1996 and living in Singapore are required to attend national primary schools regularly.

Children born between Jan 2, 2003 and Jan 1 2004 have to be registered at this year's exercise for admission to Primary One in January 2010.

Each child should be registered at only one school at any one time. If the child is registered at more than one school, he may lose his place in the school of choice.

Places in the school will be allocated according to the order of priority indicated in the Registration Scheme.

MOE said it will post children who are unsuccessful in getting a place in the school of choice to schools near their homes that still have vacancies.

The ministry assured parents that there are enough places for all eligible Primary One students.

With a 10 per cent reduction of cohort size for 2010, MOE said the number of school places will be adjusted accordingly to reflect the smaller cohort.

A new school named Horizon Primary will open in 2010 in the new town of Punggol.

Six primary schools - Dazhong Primary, Guangyang Primary, Junyuan Primary, Kong Hwa School, Tampines Primary and CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls' School (Primary section) - will be relocating to their final or temporary locations next year.
