IT WAS a grand wedding to be remembered - but for the wrong reasons - for one extended family.

A week after the festivities in Melbourne on June 5 and 6, six of 13 Singaporeans who flew to attend the party are now holed up at the Communicable Disease Centre 2 (CDC2) and KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH), known as case numbers 26 to 31 of the Influenza A (H1N1) virus.

Four others tested negative. There are three more relatives - all in their 60s - who are returning tomorrow.

'I am worried for my 68-year-old father. He suffers from kidney failure and is on dialysis. I spoke to my mother, and she told me they are currently both fine,' said the 42-year-old woman who is known as case 29.

The extended family of 13 arrived in Melbourne on June 2 to help prepare for the wedding.

'My wife's niece was getting married and wanted to have authentic Malay food, so the women went there to cook up a storm,' said the husband of the 42-year-old woman.

The two-day wedding was attended by about 700 guests.

'We spent most of the time at my sister-in-law's home, so I don't really know where I got infected,' he said, adding that he developed a cough three hours before boarding the plane home.

'There was no fever, so I thought it was nothing. I took lozenges to suppress it. It worked, so I did not put on a mask on board the plane,' the 52-year-old told The Straits Times.

The couple returned from Melbourne on Singapore Airlines Flight SQ228 on June 9. Their 16-year-old daughter, a Secondary 4 student, came back on the same day, but on a different flight.

The man said he even managed to have a picture taken of himself with Arsenal Football Club's manager Arsene Wenger, who happened to be at the arrival hall at the same time.
