TAIWANESE singer Zhang Hui Mei, or better known as A-Mei, joined hands with over 1000 youths from various local junior colleges and secondary schools to make a stand against global hunger in World Vision's 30-hour famine camp.
In her new role as World Vision Singapore's 30-Hour Famine Ambassador, she and the participating youths make a stand for millions of children around the world who go hungry everyday as a result of the global economic and food crisis.
At the opening ceremony held at Anglo-Chinese School, A-Mei launched the beginning of the famine camp together with Member of Parliament for Jalan Besar GRC, Miss Denise Phua and Executive Director of World Vision Singapore, Mr James Quek.
She was then ushered to the enactment scene of an earthquake disaster where she played the role of an injured woman who has to find her family members in the chaos and rebuild their home.
A-Mei also shared about her role as ambassador and her recent trip to Mewat, India.
Together with her is 11-year-old Cambodian boy Theara, who recounted his HIV/Aids journey which is plagued with discrimination and stigmatisation.
