AFTER a de-stress in the ball pool, a young government of a virtual land set out its ideas for Singapore during its first press conference, held at Ikea Alexandra on Thursday.

The government of Smaland, whose citizens are aged four to 10 years, believes the island-state needs more parks for pets and owners, bicycle lanes on school routes and school sport facilities be made available to the public on weekends.

Smaland's co-Prime Minister Marcus Chew, nine, highlighted helicopter rides over the city as one of the top ideas.

The plan was inspired by a visit to the Urban Redevelopment Authority's (URA) Draft Master Plan 2008 exhibition. A graphic, displaying more than 20 recommendations from the Smaland government was handed to the URA at the start of May.

It is hoped that the ideas may be considered for incorporation into its Master Plan for land use in Singapore.

The graphic will feature at the URA's Endearing Home exhibition at Vivo City from July 23 to 26. The exhibition aims to promote leisure destinations in Singapore as well as future developments.

The Smaland plan is currently on display at Ikea in Tampines and Alexandra.

Currently, Ikea in Singapore is the only outlet to have this virtual nation, complete with passports, currency and a government.

Today Smaland has 30,000 citizens.
