Man trapped in machine dies
By Sujin Thomas
A CHINESE worker died from multiple fractures after being trapped in a machine at a Yishun factory on Monday night.

While details are sketchy, Mr Yang Bing Shui somehow became trapped between a hydraulic arm and the frame of a machine used to wrap plastic products, sometime after 9pm.

The 24-year-old production operator who worked for King Plastic, was in charge of sticking labels on pallets of finished plastic products.

The machine he was trapped under, would then wrap the products.

King Plastic is a manufacturer of plastic products and is located at Yishun Industrial Park A.

Mr Yang was pronounced dead at about 11pm by Singapore Civil Defence Force officers who had to use inflated airbags to free his body.

A Ministry of Manpower spokesman said that investigations will look into areas such as the condition of the machine, the adequacy of safety measures and whether the worker had been trained in or had followed safe work procedures.

Last year, a total of 67 people died in work-related incidents, compared with 63 in 2007.

More than half were from the marine and construction industries.
