THE sleepy Killiney Post Office has come back to life with a cafe-bar called KPO in the building.

The place aims to attract the young Orchard Road crowd and seems to be doing just that.

Ms Sharon Kaur, 41, who works in Winsland House next door, said: 'The bar makes it hip to be in a post office.'

The fixture from her childhood, where her father was based as a postman, has been completely transformed, she said.

'I think I'll come back here for a drink with my colleagues,' she said.

Working to reinvent itself, SingPost has transformed a few of its buildings to increase the value of its properties and offer more services to customers.

The company owns about half of its 62 post offices. It declined to comment on the rental collected from tenants.

So far, two other post offices have been made over - Tanglin Post Office and Alexandra Post Office.

The Tanglin Post Office, which reopened last August, has a supermarket, bank, furniture store, restaurant and wine shop; while Alexandra Post Office has a childcare centre.

A SingPost spokesman said the tenants were chosen to suit the profile of the customer base.
