THE two travelling companions of Singapore's first H1N1 flu victim, a Singapore Management University undergraduate, have been cleared tests for the virus strain.
The lecturer and the other SMU student are now on home quarantine, said SMU on Thursday.
They and 17 other SMU students were in New York for a 10-day study mission. The third-year business management undergrad fell ill after returning from the trip on Tuesday.
Accompanied by her boyfriend, a fellow student, she went to a general practitioner near her Siglap home. The GP suspected she had the virus and sent her by ambulance to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, which confirmed her as Singapore's Patient Zero.
The student is in a stable condition in the Communicable Disease Centre (CDC) and is expected to be well enough to go home in five days.
SMU said the boyfriend of the affected student is well and he is quarantined at TTSH. He, too, has cleared the test for A (H1N1).
'The university is in contact with all 17 students, who had extended their trip in North America after the Business Study Mission. They are well,' added SMU in a statement.
