WITH an uncertain economy and declining tourist arrivals, organisers of this year's Great Singapore Sale are trying to create buzz by offering a host of tie-ups and promotions.
On top of retailers offering up to 70 per cent off during the yearly shopping festival, which runs from Friday to the end of July, shoppers can expect discounted meals, hotel stays and admission to tourist attractions.
The first Great Singapore Feast will feature steeply discounted signature dishes at eateries such as the Tung Lok Group of restaurants, the Jumbo and Palm Beach seafood restaurant chains, My Mum's Cuisine and Bakerzin.
Singapore Tourism Board has also rolled out the Great Singapore Pass, which offers discounts on admission to tourist attractions, and discounted 2-day-1- night weekend 'staycations' for locals at hotels like Four Seasons and the Hilton.
Yearly staples such as the Great Singapore Sale shopping challenge, where bargain-hunters race to grab the highest savings, and a tourist privilege card giving additional discounts, are also on offer.
Mastercard is also giving additional discounts of 10 to 70 per cent for cardholders at selected merchants, and $15,000 worth of Raffles City shopping vouchers every week.
Shopaholics who love their luxury goods can look forward to the Club 21 Bazaar from May 29 to 31, offering 80 per cent discounts on designer wear.
Meanwhile, recently launched local retail campaign Get Singapore is also pitching in with a showcase sale this weekend at Vivocity. It will offer up to 50 per cent off on brands such as watch retailer 25 Hours and handbag label Stella Stella.
