LOCAL and foreign motorists will pay lower road tolls next month.
Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) charges at 27 gantries islandwide will be reduced by 50 cents or $1.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) usually reduces ERP charges during school holidays, as families head overseas and fewer parents drop their children off at school, reducing traffic on the roads.
The LTA will also reduce the operating hours of the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) scheme from June 1 to 28.
Drivers of foreign-registered cars and motorcycles will have to buy a permit only if they drive into Singapore from 2am to noon on weekdays.
This means five extra hours on the road without having to pay a toll, as the current hours for charges last till 5pm.
The LTA said that this was part of ongoing initiatives to attract foreign visitors, especially during the school holidays.
The VEP scheme was introduced to regulate the entry of foreign-registered cars and motorcycles.
The existing VEP fee of $20 a day for cars and $4 a day for motorcycles and normal toll charges for foreign-registered vehicles remain the same.
