STUDENTS may apply for direct admission to junior colleges from June 29 and to polytechnics from July 8. The closing date is Oct 9.
The Direct Admission Exercise allows potential JC students to win places based on personal qualities such as leadership, or on their talents for science, music and sports. The polytechnics will consider students' talents in the courses they are applying for.
Government and government-aided JCs can admit up to 10 per cent of their JC1 intake through the exercise.
However, the three independent schools offering pre-university programmes - Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), Hwa Chong Institution and Raffles Institution (Junior College) - can fill up to 20 per cent of their places using their own criteria.
The polytechnics will each admit up to 2.5 per cent of next year's intake under this exercise.
Students should approach the participating schools or visit their websites for more details.
