THE Land Transport Authority's (LTA) construction projects have received high scores in a recent assessment by an international safety auditor.
DuPont Safety Resources, which audited four LTA sites last month, gave the agency 4.07 points out of a maximum five, said the LTA on Wednesday.
This puts it in the top 5 per cent to 10 per cent of organisations worldwide audited by DuPont, whose clients include American space agency Nasa.
Other organisations with similar results include Shell Canada and the Zachry Construction Corporation in the United States.
The recent audit is the third that DuPont has conducted on LTA sites. In its previous audit in 2007, the LTA scored 3.7 points.
Mr Frederick Wong, the LTA's group director for safety and contracts, credits the improved showing to continuous safety education and enforcement on its sites.
For example, workers on construction sites are briefed daily on safety.
DuPont's auditor Jim Faulk said: 'The LTA is making great progress on its journey to becoming a world-class safety organisation.'
DuPont audited a worksite at Buona Vista for the upcoming Circle Line, the laying of Circle Line tracks and testing of trains along the new line, a Downtown Line project at Cross Street and the Woodsville Interchange, a road project.
The projects were scored in 12 different aspects - what DuPont calls its 'essential elements for safety management' - including work safety policy, safety training and effective communication between the LTA and contractors.
