Serial housebreaker nabbed

A serial housebreaker who is believed to have stolen from several homes in Ang Mo Kio last month was nabbed on Tuesday.

He targeted flat units with window louvers that were located next to the main door.

The window louvers would be forced open and the main door unlocked from the inside to gain entry into the unit.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the suspect after investigations and arrested the him on Tuesday morning in Ang Mo Kio Central.

Two handphones and a watch, believed to be stolen items, were found on him.

The suspect will be charged in court on Thursday for housebreaking and theft by night.

He could be jailed up to 14 months and even caned, if convicted.

Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division HQ, Superintendent Hsu Sin Yun urged all homeowners to stay safe by installing additional window locks where possible, and to secure their homes by padlocking the front gate in addition to locking the main door.
