SINGAPORE has made it past the two-week mark since the World Health Organisation raised the alarm on the new flu strain without having anyone here contract it so far.
No one was taken to the Communicable Disease Centre for screening on Friday. Of the 32 people who had developed flu symptoms within seven days of returning from affected countries, 31 have been cleared. Of these, 25 had not caught any Influenza A virus, while six with the virus had caught the usual seasonal strains.
Only one person is now waiting for results of tests to check for infection by the new Influenza A (H1N1) strain. No home quarantine orders were issued on Friday.
Since the precaution was implemented on Monday, 13 people flying here from Mexico - seven Singaporeans and six foreigners - have been given the orders. They must remain sequestered in their homes or in Government chalets until the end of a week from the time they left Mexico.
Of these, four - two Singaporeans and two foreigners - had their quarantines lifted by the end of Wednesday. The remaining nine are faring well, the Health Ministry said on Friday.
