THE Singapore Red Cross is going digital this year.
In celebration of World Red Cross Day, which commemorates the birth of the organisation's founder Henry Dunant, the humanitarian organisation here put itself on the Internet map with a Facebook question-and-answer session.
Its chairman, Mr Tee Tua Ba, who is also ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, answered questions from the public between 12pm and 2pm on Friday.
Questions ranged from how funds were raised, as well as how the $22 million donated to victims of the Sichuan earthquake was being disbursed.
One parent even logged on, on her daughter's behalf, to ask for more information about the SRC's disaster relief work, to be used in her child's project.
Mr Tee also delivered a pre-recorded speech via video-sharing website YouTube, where he said he would 'create a sustainable and rewarding environment for volunteerism'.
He said he was discussing with various departments about how 'talented and committed volunteers can further their contribution with us'.
This would 'maintain a sizeable pool of talented volunteers for the organisation's long-term future', he added.
The SRC's parent organisation, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, also launched a global online campaign on Friday at www.ourworld-yourmove.org to highlight victims of war, disasters and poverty.
