Malay, Indian excos elevated
By Ang Yiying
THE efforts of the People's Association Malay and Indian activity executive committees have been recognised nationally.

Their status will be elevated to full-fledged grassroots committees from August.

The reason: They have evolved throughout the years by expanding their activities beyond their cultural core to organising activities for the community at large.

The changes would include having their appointments endorsed by the People's Association and the implementation of a consistent structure across the committees in different constituencies.

This will affect all the 98 Malay Activity Executive Committees, comprising 1745 members, and 94 Indian Activity Executive Committees, comprising 1,535 members.

Asked whether these committee members will get privilges or benefits because of the change, the People's Association said it was still working on the details.

Other groups that are considered full-fledged grassroots groups are: Women's Executive Committees, Senior Citizens Executive Committees and Youth Executive Committees.
