POLICE on Monday busted a counterfeit sports and luxury products syndicate, seizing more than $360,000 worth of counterfeit goods in the process.

In the island-wide operation conducted on Monday, police arrested one male and three females. Aged between 27 and 51-years-old, the four are suspected of being involved in the sale and distribution of counterfeit sports and luxury products.

Two of the subjects will be charged in Court on Wednesday for offences under the Trade Marks Act while the remaining two will be released on bail pending further investigations.

The bust was the result of extensive intelligence probes over several months into suspected syndicated piracy activities at trade fairs island-wide.

In the course of the 16-hour operation, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department raided various locations including Bishan, Jurong East, Woodlands and Bedok and seized more than 10,000 counterfeit luxury and sports products such as leather bags and wallets.

The items seized amounted to an estimated street value of more than $360,000.

Supt Goh Lam Kiong, Asssistant Director of the Specialised Crime Division, CID said: 'Police will take swift and stern action to eradicate piracy syndicates involved in the sale and distribution of counterfeit articles in Singapore.'

Persons found guilty of being in possession of articles for the purposes of trade or manufacture to which a registered trade mark is falsely applied, may be fined up to $10 000 per article to a maximum of $100 000, or imprisoned for up to 5 years, or both.
