AN INDONESIAN maid who duped Manpower Ministry officers into a false probe was jailed three months on each of two charges on Tuesday.
Ratih Puspita Sari,32 lied that she was moonlighting at a foodstall and put both the stall-owner as well as her own employer in a fix.
She made two false statements last November claiming she moonlighted as a dishwasher at a noodle stall in Block 112 Jalan Bukit Merah on three different occasions at $10 per hour.
But MOM investigations did not bear out her claims and in January this year she admitted she had lied and never moonlighted. She made the statements because she was unhappy with her current employer and was unable to get a transfer.
This is the first time such a case has been brought before the courts.
The District Court ordered Ratih to serve the two jail terms concurrently. She could have been fined up to $15,000 or jailed up to a year or to both.
