Coffeeshop, flat broken into
By Cheryl Ong

A COFFEESHOP and an apartment were broken into on two separate days.

In the first break-in on Monday, more than $3,000 worth of cigarettes and cash were stolen from a coffeeshop at Jalan Berseh, near Sungei Road. An employee of the coffeeshop drinks stall discovered the theft at 6am on Monday while opening the stall for business.

She found two bicycle cable locks used to secure the grilles of the back entrance cut.

Closed-circuit television footage inside the shop showed a man in dark shirt and pants with blue shoes breaking into the coffeeshop at 1.20am on Monday.

In the second break-in, $8,000 worth of jewellery and $1,000 cash were reported missing from an apartment in Braddell last Friday.

The resident, a 36-year-old man, told police he found out about the break-in after returning from a business trip to China. He was away from Feb 6 May 1.

Police suspect the thief had broken in through an unlocked toilet window in the apartment, which was on the fifth floor. There were no other signs of a forced entry.
