By Elena Chong, Courts Correspondent

A WOMAN who misappropriated about $183,000 from her former employer was jailed for 18 months on Thursday.

Genn Lin Yann, 52, was a sales manager of travel agency Kian Min Travel when she pocketed the cash sales proceeds of $183,672 belonging to the company between May 21 and Aug 8, 2007.

A district court heard that staff of the company was checking outstanding payments when Genn was found to have issued too many sales invoices to customers on credit amounting to more than $100,000.

She admitted that customers had paid her but she used the money for her personal expenses and to settle her debts.

She could have been jailed for up to seven years and fined for the offence.
