THE Singapore Youth Olympics Games organising committee on Friday unveiled its new hip microsite to engage youths here and other countries.
Named WhyOhGee, the site contains the latest information about the Youth Olympics Games (YOG), by way of videos, photos and text, some of which are created by students.
Closer to the Games, the committee also plans to create user-generated features and online activities on the site www.whyohgee, said new media head Mr Julian Lim.
The team, which roped in student volunteers to brainstorm ideas, came up with five sections - Olympic, Singapore 2010, Sport, Seriously and CAN!
Olympic segment gives an overview of the Olympic Games, values and trivia, while Singapore 2010 contains news and features on the YOG, the people behind it, and any YOG-related activities in schools.
In Sport, the 26 Olympic games are featured, and other sport-related issues like doping and gambling. Seriously is about the environment and green issues.
CAN! stands for Create Action Now!, with content 'created for youth by youth'. It gives coverage on fringe YOG events in Singapore.
The committee has even teamed up with Public Libraries (PL) -an initative under the National Library Board - to provide an 'asking' service.
Netizens can ask any question under the sun - it need not be sports related - and one question a week will be selected. PL and Youth Guru - a personality or mascot of sorts on WhyOhGee - will come up with two different answers.
Mr Lim said this site is part of Singapore 2010 YOG's push to involve youth through the new media outreach. Besides this site, its presence is also on Youtube, Flickr, Facebook and its own Wordpress blog.
