EDEN School, a new autism school opened on Friday to help equip children with more severe autism with proper vocational skills.

Together with its sister school, Pathlight, which provides mainstream education to children with autism, the school will help to deliver a full range of help to these children.

When its new campus in Bukit Batok is up and running, facilities like an industrial kitchen, IT lab, arts studio and office worksite will help students pick up proper 'work habits'.

The school is launched as part of World Autism Awareness month. It was formerly known as the Singapore Autism School and offered only a general functional skills curriculum.

Guest of Honour Senior Minister of State for Education Grace Fu said the school broadens the spectrum of help available to parents of children with autism.

'It means we have a more customised way of meeting the needs of the children and by doing so, giving them a better education that they need,' she said.
