Aussie firm gets MRT job
By Christopher Tan, Senior Correspondent

THE Land Transport Authority has awarded Australian company McConnell Dowell a contract to build a stretch of the Downtown MRT Line.

The $340 million contract is for the design and construction of the station at Beauty World and associated tunnels.

Located along Upper Bukit Timah Road, the station at Beauty World will double up as a civil defence shelter.

Construction is scheduled to start soon and is targeted to complete in 2015.

The Beauty World station is part of Downtown Line Stage 2 (DTL2), a 16.6km fully-underground line with 12 stations and one depot.

When completed, DTL2 will link commuters from the Bukit Timah corridor to the North-east Line, North-south Line and Circle Line.
