Cabby relieved, and rewarded

FOR one hour last Thursday afternoon, cabby Lim Heng Long, 64, had no inkling about what he was carrying in his boot: S$377,000 worth of gold bars.

His previous passenger, British jewellery dealer Hemant Soni, 38, had forgotten to retrieve the 5kg bag of gold bars when he and a friend left Mr Lim's Comfort cab at Cuff Road in Little India earlier that day.

'When we realised it, it was too late. We ran around the area but we couldn't find the cab,' said Mr Soni, who was visiting from London. He was on his way to a jewellery supplier and had planned to use the gold, valued at 170,000 pounds, to trade for jewellery to sell back home.
