A RESTAURANT manager who was charged with corruption was fined a total of $2,500 in a traffic court for drink driving and stopping at a road shoulder of an expressway.
Ng Kok Chye, 33, allegedly offered a $100 bribe to Certis Cisco constable S. Harie Krishna along Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway last Oct 15 so that he would not call the Traffic Police to conduct a test on him for drink driving.
A Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau statement said constable Krishna, contracted as a traffic marshal, had checked Ng that evening after suspecting him of driving under the influence of alcohol. The car was parked at the shoulder of the expressway.
After the constable had called the Traffic Police for assistance to conduct a breath analyser test, Ng allegedly offered the bribe to him. The cop refused it.
In the traffic court on Thursday, Ng was fined $1,500 for being unfit to drive as he had at least 45 mcg of alcohol per 100 ml of breath that evening.
He was fined another $1,000 for stopping and allowing his vehicle to remain at the road shoulder of the expressway. He pleaded guilty to both charges.
A pre-trial conference has been fixed for the bribery case on April 16. He is out on $5,000 bail.
