SOME 20,000 job seekers have applied for the 800 job openings offered by Resorts World at Sentosa (RWS) at the four-day career fair held at Suntec onvention centre, reflecting the strong lure of the integrated resort.
RWS senior vice-president for human resources and training, Ms Seah-Khoo Ee Boon, said on Monday that over half were keen on a job with the casino and another 40 per cent were looking to work in the Universal Studios theme park.
Interviews for short-listed candidates began on Monday.
RWS booth at the job fair, held from Thursday to Sunday, was visited by both local and foreign job seekers, including PMETs, fresh graduates and Singaporeans who have been laid off.
RWS said successful applicants will get up to six months training, depending on the position. Some employees will also get the opportunity to cut their teeth at Genting-owned casinos and Universal Studios' Orlando resort.
'Despite the current economic climate, Resorts World at Sentosa will deliver its commitment of 10,000 jobs when it opens early next year. The Resort is committed to hire Singaporeans,' said the RWS statement on Monday.
Many also made a beeline for the Marina Bay Sands booth during the fair.
Fair organiser Michael Ling said the integrated resorts were most certainly the biggest draw.
The two integrated resorts are expected to add some 20,000 jobs to the Singapore economy.
