Career website for students
By Amelia Tan
A WEBSITE to help students discover their future careers will be rolled out to all secondary and post-secondary schools by August.

Students can discover their strengths and interests via online profiling tests and are then directed towards suitable jobs and courses which are included in a occupation and course database.

They can also create electronic portfolios to chart their performance in school work and co-curricular actitivites and learn interview and resume writing skills through videos and quizes.

Piloted in 23 schools earlier this year, the website is in the final stages of development and will be introduced to all primary schools by early next year.

The portal was launched on Monday by the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Education Tan Ching Yee at the two-day Education and Career Guidance Conference attended by principals, teachers and counsellors at Republic Polytechnic.

Mrs Tan said education and career guidance programmes in schools will prepare youths for the future as they are guided towards becoming more self-aware, learn about new possibilities and work towards goals.

She added that for these programmes to be effective, they must be supported by school leaders, time must be allocated to carry them out and they have to be introduced from a young age.
