Budget 2009 Debate
80,000 paid up library fines
AROUND 80,000 library members have paid their fines since it was announced last month that borrowing privileges would be suspended from April 1 if fines remain unpaid.

The fines paid total $160,000, said Senior Minister of State (Information, Communications and the Arts) Lui Tuck Yew in Parliament on Friday.

He added that letters detailing the fine amount and payment options are being issued to over 670,000 members who still have outstanding fines.

These fines total $7.29 million, or about 30 times the amount estimated to be spent on administrative costs.
