THE COLOUR and sounds of the Thaipusam festival will fill the streets of Little India this weekend.
Hindu devotees will take to the streets tomorrow for the annual foot procession. Roads between Serangoon Road and Clive Street will be closed from 6pm today to 2am on Monday. The procession will start from Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple in Serangoon Road at 12.01am tomorrow and end at Sri Thendayuthapani Temple in Tank Road.
Road closures in Chinatown
SOME roads in Chinatown will be closed to traffic today for an early celebration of Yuan Xiao Jie, the 15th day of Chinese New Year celebrations.
The affected roads are New Bridge Road between Upper Cross Street and Kreta Ayer Road as well as Eu Tong Sen Street between Outram Road and Upper Cross Street.
The route will take devotees through Serangoon Road, Selegie Road, Orchard Road, Penang Road, Clemenceau Avenue and Tank Road. Celebrations are expected to end at 12.01am on Monday.
There will also be a motorised chariot procession tomorrow between 5am and 8am from Sri Thendayuthapani Temple to Sri Layan Sithi Vinayagar Temple in Keong Saik Road.
Police advise motorists to avoid the designated route as well as the peripheral roads leading to the affected areas. Motorists who wish to pick up relatives after the procession are advised to wait at the car park next to the River Valley Building.
