FRANK Wong, the former chief operating officer at Singapore's DBS Group , has joined Galleon Group as Asia chairman, the US hedge fund said late on Wednesday.

Mr Wong, who will be based in Singapore, will oversee Galleon's business strategy and growth initiatives throughout the region, the firm said in a statement.

The Asian unit has about US$1 billion (S$1.5 billion) worth of Asian assets and is active in trading foreign exchange, interest rates, commodities, equity and volatility indices, Galleon said.

Mr Wong, 61, retired from DBS, South-east Asia's largest lender, in August last year. In addition to being COO, he was also a member of the DBS board and the Hong Kong-based head of its Hong Kong and Greater China operations. -- THOMSON REUTERS
