The alleged threat came a day after another MP, Mr Seng Han Thong, was set ablaze by a resident at a community event.
Ng is said to have told the officer in Mandarin: 'I cannot take this anymore and I don't know what I'll do one day, I can't be sure about that...How can you not hit her? I get angry when I see her, so how can I not hit her?'
Ng is the second man this year to be charged with a crime involving an MP. Last month, a retired cabby was accused of torching Yio Chu Kang MP Seng, who needed several skin graft operations and is still recovering in hospital.
In the dock, Ng, who looked tense, said through an interpreter that he wished to apply for free legal help. He asked for two days to clear up piles of old newspapers at his home which might pose a fire hazard.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Imran Abdul Hamid objected to Ng's request for a personal bond instead of court bail.
He said there was a chance Ng might take off. The police, who had tried looking for Ng on Tuesday, waited for him from 9am to 11pm. No location was mentioned.
Seeking a high bail, the prosecutor said Ng might go 'off-tangent' and re-offend.
