A TEMPORARY traffic diversion to ease congestion at Woodlands Centre Road has now been made permanent.
This comes after a four-month trial showed the diversion was successful in reducing traffic jams on the road which has heavy use due to the Woodlands Checkpoint.
From next Sunday, motorcycles and heavy vehicles will not be allowed to use the road to access the checkpoint at any time of the day.
Cars and other vehicles will not be able to use the road to access the checkpoint from 4pm to 10pm on Mondays to Fridays, and 10am to 10pm on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
Only public and school buses will be allowed to use Woodlands Centre Road to reach the checkpoint, said the authorities on Wednesday in a joint statement.
They added that the trial, which cut traffic congestion and noise pollution, received positive feedback from residents and businesses in the area.
Motorists who want to access the checkpoint during restricted hours can do so using Woodlands Road or the BKE.
Those who have questions about the diversion can contact the Traffic Police on 1800-547-0000 or the Land Transport Authority on 1800-225-5582.
