PRESIDENT SR Nathan on Tuesday night sent a congratulatory letter to Mr Barack Obama on his inauguration as the 44th President of the United States.
The President said Mr Obama's inauguration comes at a time when there are many challenges facing the US and the rest of the world.
'Many countries that are grappling with the consequences of the global economic downturn will be looking to the United States for leadership in addressing the global economic situation, as well as security and environmental challenges,' he said, adding that under Obama's able leadership, the US will be able to respond effectively to the various challenges both domestically and internationally.
The President said relations between Singapore and the US have been longstanding, close, multi-faceted and versatile, and he looks forward to Mr Obama's visit to Singapore in November for the Apec Summit.
