A CHINA national who threatened to kill a pub manager and caused hurt to her was jailed for 10 weeks on Thursday.
Huang Jianchun, 19, a former KTV hostess, admitted to threatening, biting and scratching manager Ong Pei Ching, 27, at a KTV pub in Geylang Road on Oct 31 last year.
The court heard that after Ong cancelled Huang's work permit that day, she sought the help of two auxiliary police officers to help escort Huang to the airport during her repatriation.
A dispute broke out when Huang refused to hand over her passport.
During a scuffle, Huang pushed the victim to the wall, bit and scratched her arms.
Huang then took a kitchen knife from the dressing table and said 'I want to kill you'' in Mandarin.
Her assigned lawyer, Dr Chuang Wei Ping, said Huang paid about $10,000 to an agent. She thought she was only required to sing and dance as a KTV hostess in a downtown location like Orchard Road.
But when she found out that she had to entertain clients and have sex with them, she refused, and was held in the premises without her consent.
Dr Chuang said the next day, her employer had five persons with her when she asked for Huang's passport.
It was during a struggle to get the passport when Huang committed both offences.
District Judge Adrian Soon backdated her sentence to Nov 1.
She could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined for criminal intimidation.
For causing hurt, she could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined up to $5,000.
