A BUSINESSMAN was hauled to court on Wednesday to face 14 charges of corruption involving a total of $102,958.
Chia Chor Yam, 54, is the second man to be charged in connection with the National Library Board subsidiary eLpedia corruption case.
Chia, the managing director of Knowledge Internet Solutions, allegedly gave bribes on 14 occasions to Mr Lim Seng Ping, 54, then the chief technical officer of eLpedia, in 2004 and 2005, in return for the latter to recommend eLpedia to award manpower supply contracts to KIS.
He asked for an adjournment to seek legal advice.
Bail of $60,000 was offered.
The case will be mentioned on Jan 20. His passport was impounded.
Last Monday, Mr Lim was fined $120,000 and ordered to pay a penalty of $94,689 after admitting to three counts of bribery.
The maximum penalty for corruption is a fine of up to $100,000 and/or a jail term of up to five years.
