IT SERVICES company Fujitsu Asia on Tuesday opened a $15-million data centre in Changi - its third in Singapore, and fourth in the Asean region.
The data centre, which has 'green' energy-efficient features, is expected to create 'hundreds of jobs', said the company's president for Singapore operations, Mr Masaki Kajiyama.
The jobs will be spread between here and Malaysia, where Fujitsu has its helpdesk call centres.
He added that the company saw Singapore as a 'global hub as part of our global strategy', and that 'Singapore has very good people here, lots of trained people, though a little bit more expensive'.
The centre started operations in December and currently occupies 7,400 sq ft of space.
The parent company Fujitsu, which is better known to consumers for its brand of laptop computers, made over 56 per cent of its revenue in its 2007 financial year from system platforms and services, such as outsourcing and consulting. This came to US$32.7 billion.
