A NEW iPhone application was launched by The Straits Times on Monday, allowing mobile readers to access breaking news stories as they are published on the newspaper's free website.
The Straits Times decided that the time was right to launch the application as demand for the iPhone - which was launched in Singapore last August - increases.
The Straits Times digital technology editor, Mr Yeong Ah Seng, said: 'The iPhone is now popular with Singaporeans and we always go where the readers are.'
Early reviewers posted positive comments at the Apple iTunes store.
One reviewer known as Runelguy said: 'This application is recommended for downloading. The news is always up-to-date and categorised in useful segments for convenient browsing. Works very well on my iTouch!'
The Straits Times relaunched its website last August to offer more breaking news for free to its online readers.
It also offers a subscription-based product, ST Digital, that provides the day's print edition of the newspaper online.
