COMMUTERS can get a one-for-one replacement of their ez-link cards for the newer versions from Friday.

The new cards are CEPAS-compliant, or Contactless ePurse Application-compliant.

This means that they can be used to pay for purchases at retailers and eventually for Electronic Road Payment (ERP) and car park charges, on top of paying for train and bus rides.

Card replacements can be done at all post office branches, Transitlink office and 13 bus interchanges by Sept 30.

After this date, the current ez-link cards cannot be used.

When commuters exchange their cards, they will get their remaining value on their current cards transferred to their new cards and an additional $3 which is now locked in as their travel deposit on the current card.

Students can get their concession cards from school from February and senior citizens will get theirs in the mail from April.

Automatic credit card and Giro top-ups of the new cards will only be available from Feb 27 and July 27, so commuters using this function are advised not to change their cards until then, said the Land Transport Authority on Thursday.

They will also need to reapply for them.

For more details, call the Land Transport Authority at 1800-225-5582, Ez-Link at 6496-8300 or TransitLink at 1800-2255-663.
