A WOMAN who lied that someone had withdrawn money illegally from her account after her ATM card was stolen was jailed for two weeks on Thursday.
Administration officer Sunita Sam, 29, admitted giving false information to Sergeant Alvin Wong Hong Wee that she lost her ATM card and other items when she fell asleep on a bus on Jan 19 last year.
She also said money had been withdrawn from her account without her consent.
But she confessed later that she had actually lent her ATM card to a friend, Mr Robert Patrick De Silva, to withdraw money.
She had lodged the false report as she did not want her mother to know.
But her mother checked her account and saw the withdrawals from her account.
A magistrate's court heard that police spent time tracking down the location of the ATM transactions and getting CCTV footage.
It also led to her friend being called up for investigation.
Two other similar charges were taken into consideration.
Sam could have been jailed for up to six months or fined up to $1,000 or jailed and fined.
