A MAN who broke his wife's nose and also trafficked in drugs was sentenced to five years six months jail and five strokes of the cane on Wednesday.
Teo Benny July, 28, admitted to grievously hurting Madam Chong Wei Ling, 23, outside a flat in Stirling Road on June 10 last year .
A district court heard that the couple were at home when Madam Chong accidentally spilled some water onto the sofa, sparking a heated argument.
During the argument, Teo punched the victim once on the nose, causing it to bleed.
He also admitted to selling five Ecstasy tablets to an undercover Central Narcotics Bureau officer for $150 at a bus stop along Commonwealth Avenue on Oct 6.
Another drug trafficking charge was considered during his sentencing.
He has three unrelated previous convictions.
Teo could have breen jailed for up to 10 years for grievous hurt. For drug trafficking, the maximum penalty is 20 years and 15 strokes.
