PEDDLING ice cream and other wares on the streets is meant to be a lifeline for older Singaporeans who are jobless, but fewer people are signing up to be licensed street hawkers.
So far this year, only 22 new street hawking licences have been issued, a fraction of the 62 new licences given out in 2005.
The number of street hawkers, who sell ice cream, newspapers and food which is not easily perishable, is steadily dwindling.
