ALTHOUGH a former Polyclinic has been set aside for a foreign worker dormitory in Margaret Drive, Queenstown, residents are not unduly alarmed.
Instead, at a dialogue with MP Baey Yam Keng on Saturday, residents seemed more interested in the issue of town councils making investments.
This is a far cry from when the announcement of a temporary dorm site in Serangoon Gardens drew a petition of about 1,600 signatures against the idea.
The old polyclinic is one of 10 new sites that have been made available for temporary foreign worker dormitories to relieve overcrowding in residential premises arising from a shortage of foreign worker accommodation.
They comprise three vacant state properties and seven vacant state lands.
Most of the sites are situated in industrial areas while some, such as the ones in Queenstown and in Hougang, are within walking distance of residential areas.
