A SECOND fire station will be built on Jurong Island to handle the increase in activity on the island after its expansion.
'With the current expansion of Jurong Island, it is therefore crucial to expand on the Singapore Civil Defence Force's (SCDF) operational capabilities within Jurong Island to ensure the optimal response and coverage on the island,' said an SCDF spokesman.
Scheduled for completion in December 2009, Banyan Fire Station, which will be located on Jurong Island extension, will house about 100 Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel and a fleet of up to 15 operational vehicles.
'This new fire station, together with the existing Jurong Island Fire Station, will be able to respond to calls within eight minutes, to any emergency that occurs, even on the remotest part of Jurong Island extension,' said the SCDF spokesman.
Officers at the new station will also be equipped to respond to fire and rescue incidents and hazardous material emergencies.
