A NEW ship sailed into Asia and Singapore for the first time on Tuesday morning.

The Azamara Quest arrived in Singapore with some 600 passengers after a 24-night voyage from Athens, Greece.

Local trade and tourism officials welcomed the ship on its maiden turn here.

The ship, belonging to the Royal Caribbean Cruises International family, is making its debut in Asia with a series of 14 or 18-night trips within the region, sailing to Bangkok, Hong Kong, Beijing, Kyoto and Hanoi.

It will be based in the region for its Asian season till April next year (09).

The service the ship promises is a tier higher than the mass-market cruises with butler service in every stateroom and suite.

RCCI said the Azamara Cruises brand is meant to fill the 'deluxe' category, between the premium and the luxury.

It has spas on board as well as yoga and pilates sessions for the health-nut and three ship restaurants to dine in.

It will be offering a special 18-night Christmas and New Year sailing from Dec 16 to Jan 3.
