IN THE festive spirit of giving, a group of 35 cabbies from ComfortDelGro will be helping to deliver food hampers to 1000 beneficiaries of The Boys' Brigade Sharity Gift Box from now till end of the month.

On the first day of delivery on Tuesday, 25 of the cabbies, together with the boys from The Boys' Brigade and 24 Team Singapore athletes, made their rounds to Bedok, Changi and Telok Blangah.

They gave out food hampers containing items such as cooking oil, rice and biscuits to 125 recipients on public assistance, many whom are elderly and live alone in single-room flats.

The Sharity Gift Box project, which aims to reach out to 28,000 needy this year, has only managed to collect 40 per cent of the targeted items so far. Especially lacking are food items such as canned food and biscuits.

This time last year, the Gift Box had already achieved 60 per cent of its target, said the executive director of The Boy's Brigade Desmond Koh.

Members of the public have until this Thursday to drop off non-perishable food items at the main box located at the Orchard Pedestrian Mall outside Takashimaya Shopping Centre or at any of the 14 other boxes at various FairPrice outlets.

For more details, the Sharity hotline is 1800-742-7489 (1800-Sharity).
