WHILE out on police bail for outrage of modesty, Mohammad Ridwan Abdul Kalik stole a mobile phone and later sexually abused a young girl at a staircase landing.

On Monday the 24-year-old unemployed man was jailed for 18 months and fined $1,000 after he admitted to three charges.

A district court heard that on Oct 31 last year, Ridwan called out an 18-year-old's name and, curious, she struck up a conversation with him.

He suggested going for a walk and took her to a playground on the sixth floor of a block of flats in Bedok North Road where he molested her.

On June 5 this year, Ridwan was with a friend at a void deck at Bukit Pending Road when he borrowed a mobile phone from a 15-year-old girl to play games.

Promising to return later, he never did. He sold off the $179 phone for $50.

Twelve days later, Ridwan sent a text message to another 15-year-old girl asking 'can I know you''. After exchanging several messages, the girl agreed to meet him the next day.

Before meeting him at Hougang Mall on June 18, the victim had asked two friends to follow her from a distance as she did not know Ridwan.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Lee Tong said Ridwan took her to a staircase landing of a block of flats and kissed her. He asked her to sit next to him but she refused.

He pulled her towards him, causing her to fall. He then molested her before penetrating her using his fingers. He stopped when the door opened and the girl's two friends confronted him.

Ridwan suggested that they settle the matter. But after the four of them arrived at a bus interchange, he fled.

Ridwan, who has three other charges considered, was sent to reformative training in 2002 for molestation, carnal connection and attempted carnal connection.
