Jailed for hitting doc
By Elena Chong, Court Correspondent
A MAN who hit a doctor with his bandaged left hand was jailed for three weeks on Thursday.

Vasanth Omarsangar, 23, pleaded guilty to assaulting Dr Tan Boon Huat, 58, at his clinic at Bukit Timah Road on Dec 21 last year .

He had gone to see the doctor that afternoon as he was feeling feverish and wanted him to tend to his fractured left arm.

During consultation, he asked Dr Tan to loosen the cast in his left arm which was immobilised with a back slab after a motorcycle accident.

But the doctor refused and explained that it would be better for him to wait till the next appointment with his doctor to make the adjustments as the cast was placed to immobilise the arm.

Suddenly, Vasanth stood up and repeatedly hit Dr Tan on the left side of his face with his left hand for no reason.

Dr Tan managed to ward off some of the blows. When he regained his composure, Vasanth had fled, leaving his EZ-link card behind which was later seized by the police.

Pleading for leniency, Vasanth said he was really frustrated that nothing could be done as the pain was unbearable.

He could have been jailed for up to one year and/or fined up to $1,000.
