Winners of design awards

LOCAL architectural firm, Woha, is on a roll. Its founding directors, Wong Mun Summ and Richard Hassell were named winners of this year's President's Design Award on Monday night.

This is the third time that the duo have won the annual award, since its launch in 2005. The awards were first handed out in 2006.

This year, they the Designers of the Year award.

They had previously won for designing the Church of St Mary of the Angels in Bukit Batok and 1 Moulmein Rise, a residential project at Moulmein Road, under the Designs of the Year category in 2006 and 2007 respectively.

The award, now in its third year, recognises Singapore designers' ability to develop innovative designs that have contributed to Singapore's economy, environment and culture. The Award is presented to designers and designs across all design disciplines.

Another two Designers of the Year awards went to industrial designer Nathan Yong of Air Division and graphic designer Edmund Wee of Epigram.

President SR Nathan handed out the awards at the Lasalle College of the Arts last night .

Besides the Designer of the Year awards, another set of awards were also handed out by President Nathan.

These were the Designs of the Year awards which honour specific design projects.

This year's winners are to a house at Jalan Elok, the BBH office in a warehouse, the Eubiq power outlet system, the Lasalle College of the Arts, the National Museum of Singapore, Naumi Hotel and the front lawn of the New Majestic Hotel.

The winning works will be on display at The Urban Redevelopment Authority Centre from Dec 3 to Feb 28.
