THIS supermarket shopping trolley knows if you're passing by the fish counter, and offers you a baked fish recipe via a text message on your cellphone.

When you pass the cereals shelf, the LCD screen on the trolley shows the latest promotion for cornflakes, and gives nutritional information about oats.

About 20 of these smart Futurecarts are up for shoppers' use at the new Market Place @ OneNorth, which has decided to go high-tech.

It was in keeping with the technology-friendly environment of the science research and development area where it is situated in Fusionpolis, said Mr Choo Peng Chee, chief executive officer of Cold Storage Supermarkets which owns the chain.

The supermarket, which cost about $4 million, was officially opened on Friday.

Other technologies at the 20,000 square foot supermarket include:

- Digital price tags, which are controlled by an office. When a price needs to be changed, wireless radio frequency signals are sent out to the tags.

- Self-service digital weighing and tagging system for fruits or vegetables sold by weight.
