SPH's web portals a hit
SINGAPORE Press Holdings' websites and portals have come up tops in two recent reports released by Nielsen Online and the international online research specialist, Hitwise.

In the Hitwise Top 10 Awards for the period July to September 2008, SPH took top spots in nine categories.

Among the awardees were The Straits Times' STOMP portal, which took top spot in the Lifestyle - Blogs and personal websites category.

SPH Magazines' HardwareZone held on to its number 1 spot in three categories. HardwareZone has consistently dominated the following categories, namely, News and Media - IT Media; Computers and Internet - Hardware; and Computer & Internet - Social Networking & Forum.

Its dominance in the News and Media - IT Media section is exceptionally high, garnering close to 94 per cent of the market share.

SPH's AsiaOne news portal (www.asiaone.com) and Business Times Online (www.btonline.com) also did well.

In particular, btstocks.asiaone.com was ranked number 1 in the Business and Finance - Stocks and Shares as well as the Business and Finance - Business Information categories.

AsiaOne's food portal www.soshiok.com retained its top spot for the second quarter since it was launched in May this year. It now has a market share of more than 20 per cent in the Food and Beverage - Lifestyle and Reference category.

The health sections on AsiaOne and zaobao.com were ranked second and third in the Health and Medical - Information category.

In the Weekly Top 10 Sites audited by Nielsen Online, SPH portals, including straitstimes.com, occupied six of the top 10 placings for local sites based on domestic page impressions.

Felix Soh, Digital Media Editor for SPH's English and Malay Newspapers Division, said: 'SPH's results clearly show that our portals are the ones users go to for reliable and timely news and information.

'This is a result of the strong synergy between our print editorial colleagues and us in the new media units. It also acknowledges the teams' effective marketing, which resulted in the top-of-mind recall amongst netizens.'
