Fined for hurting NZ woman
By Sujin Thomas

AS PART of Changi Airport's luxury terminal operator JetQuay's personalised service, guest relations officer Junaidah Eksan had to ferry them around on electric buggies.

But while driving a buggy through Changi Airport in September, she could not stop in time and hit a New Zealander who was running to catch her flight.

The accident left housewife Madam Jane Davnet Gibney, 46, with a fractured right leg and left ankle.

Junaidah was fined $2,000 in a magistrate court on Thursday for greviously hurting Madam Gibney as a result of her negligence.

A teary-eyed Junaidah told the court that Madam Gibney's medical bills were paid for by JetQuay.

JetQuay caters to high-end travellers who want exclusivity and privacy and offers a to-and-fro electric buggy ride from the aircraft gate to the terminal - next to Terminal 2.

According to court documents, Junaidah had picked up a passenger who arrived on a British Airways flight on Sept 1.

While driving along the departure transit area of Terminal 1, Madam Gibney, who was running for her flight, landed in front of the buggy's path.

Junaidah could not stop in time and hit Madam Gibney, who stopped in her tracks just before the collision.

Madam Gibney was then taken to Changi General Hospital.

Junaidah was sacked from her job the following day and is currently unemployed, the court heard.
